VASHI: Women autorickshaw drivers in the city have opposed the move to implement the proposal to have different colours for autorickshaws driven by women. They registered their complaint at a meeting with deputy RTO Sanjay Dhaigude at Vashi on Thursday.

The state government had proposed that the auto rickshaws driven by women be coloured pink or light orange. On these grounds, the RTO has stopped registration of autorickshaws of women. The women auto drivers protested the decision.

Rina Samuel, a Mahasangh leader, said: “How do we pay back the loan and interest if we cannot ply our vehilces due to the strict rules being implemented by the RTO office?”

Qasam Mulani, president of the Autorickshaw Mahasangh, said: “We have demanded that the RTO not insist on the colour scheme during registration. It should be option for those who want to colour their vehicle differently. Let the government take a final decision, till then the registrations should continue.”
