The Shiv Sena organized a morcha to MSEDCL office in Vashi on Tuesday to protest against alleged hiked electricity bills being sent to residents in the city and other MSEDCL issues.

The morcha was led by Shiv Sena upzilla pramukh Prafull Mhatre who was accompanied by senior leader Haribhau Mhatre, women’s wing leader Ranjana Shintre among others.

The Shiv Sena said that there have been complaints galore of inflated bills being received by the residents in the past few months. This has upset the residents and hence the morcha was organized.

The Shiv Sena partymen accompanied by residents met MSEDCL Vashi executive engineer Manohar Munge and presented a memorandum of their demands.

Said Mhatre, “There has been a rise in the illegal electric connections in the city. Power thefts have increased. There are power cuts sans any prior notice and this has become a regular feature.”

He added, “Consumers are being sent highly inflated bills. Those who are unable to pay the huge amounts face the consequence of their power connection being disconnected.”

Said Mhatre, “We demanded that MSEDCL take quick action on the issues raised and resolve the inflated bills issue at the earliest. Penalty for late payment of such bills should be waived. MSEDCl should ensure that the bills raised are commensurate with the power consumption by the consumer.”

Demanded Mhatre, “Action should also be taken against the officials and personnel responsible for the state of affairs.”

Said Shekhar Patil, a consumer, “We are middle class residents and have limited budget to spend. Receiving such high bills throws everything out of gear. Our complaints are not heeded and we are threatened with disconnection. We are first asked to pay and then complaint.”

Munge told the delegation that MSEDCL will look into the issues raised and that all efforts are made to ensure there are no discrepancies in the bills. He informed that often the hiked bills are due to the increase in the tariff.
