There are tree toll plazas on national highway number 4B connecting Uran- JNPT and state highway number 54. The plazas had come up at Dastan (Jaai) on national highway and at Chirle and Karanjade on the national highway.

“Both t he highways are being converted into six- and eight- lane roads. The work is being undertaken by Mumbai JNPT port road company,” said an NHAI official,

He added, “Hence NHAI has ordered the two companies operating the 3 toll nakas to stop collecting toll from May 1.”

The road widening project was i naugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2014.

The NHAI had then called for tenders. The work is to be completed by 2018. At a meeting held on February 25 in Delhi, NHAI decided to shut the toll plazas, so the work can be carried out smoothly.
