NMMC launches site on schools

With an eye on transparen­cy, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporatio­n’s ( NMMC) education department has started its own website — nmmcedu. com — to provide informatio­n on all 459 schools and seats available under the Right to Education ( RTE) Act for economical­ly backward students.

The website envisages to help parents who are in a quandary over the admission process and the RTE quota in schools of their choice, officials said. It provides informatio­n on all schools f rom Digha to Belapur.

T h e we b s i t e g ive s complete details of all t he 108 schools that come under the RTE ambit, including their name, contact numbers, the number of seats reserved in the school etc.

A brainchild of municipal c ommissione­r Dinesh Waghmare and deputy munici pal commission­er ( education) Amrish Patnigere, the website was for mally inaugurate­d at a special function on Monday at the Vishnudas Bhave auditorium.

“Schools, parents, teachers and students are the four pillars of the education s y s t e m . T h e we b s i t e p r o - vides infor mation that will benefit all the four constituen­ts,” Patnigere said, adding, “Those who have recently settled in the city can from the comfort of their house check on t he schools where t hey want to admit their children.”

“There are also model question papers, digital learning and other help for t he students. We are confident that the website will prove to be a boon for all the stakeholde­rs,” Patnigere concluded.

In addition, the education department will monitor quality of education in schools.
