Traffic curbs on Thane-Belapur Road

Heavy vehicles from Mulund and Mumbai will not be allowed entry between 8am and 11am and 5pm and 9.30pm

CBD BELAPUR: Brace for traffic diversions starting from Saturday because of the repair work on Saket-Kalwa flyover in Thane.

The Thane police commission­erate on May 15 issued a notificati­on for diversion of traffic.

To prevent traffic snarls for vehicles travelling through Navi Mumbai and ensure free flow of traffic, the Navi Mumbai traffic department has decided to curb some movements in the city.

According to deputy commission­er of police (traffic) Arvind Salve, “Heavy vehicles coming from Mulund and Mumbai through Airoli will not be allowed entry on Thane Belapur road between 8am and 11am and 5pm and 9.30pm.”

He added, “Heavy vehicles coming from JNPT, CBD Belapur and other places in the city, using Thane Belapur road to head towards Mumbai will not be allowed entry on Thane Belapur road from 8am to 11am and 5pm to 9.30pm.

He added, “The restrictio­ns are not for police vehicles, fire brigade, ambulances and other emergency service providing vehicles. The restrictio­ns that begin from 8 am on May 21 will be in force till further notice.”

He said, “We have provided alternate routes for these vehicles which they can take. The decision has been taken in the interest of the residents and motorists in the city so that they do not get caught in traffic jams during the peak traffic hours.” BRIDGE ON DIVA-PANVEL RAILWAY LINE THROWN OPEN FOR PUBLIC

The 991.47 metre road overbridge (RoB) on Diva Panvel Railway line connecting Taloja MIDC was thrown open for public on Friday.

Cidco senior public relations officer Mohan Ninawe said, “Cidco had undertaken the constructi­on of the RoB in December 2011 to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic at the Kalamboli warehouse over Diva Panvel Railway line and also due to tremendous increase in road traffic.”

He added that the constructi­on work was completed this month.

According to Ninawe, “The RoB provides an easy access to Taloja MIDC area from National Highway 4 and also to Roadpali link road. It is a four-lane bridge. The work of the constructi­on of bridge was awarded to JM Mhatre Infra Pvt. Ltd. with a contract value of Rs51.68 crore."
