Fewer robberies, thefts in Mumbai since Nov 8 THE DROP
“With no cash around, even thieves are going through a dry phase,” a Mumbai police officer joked, sitting at his desk inside a quiet police station – a rare sight for the force. A look at the figures over the past two months show the statement is true.
Hindustan Times collected data on cash-related offences including thefts, robberies and burglaries from the Mumbai police. In October, 628 cases of thefts were reported, which dropped to 437 in November and further came down to 333 in December so far – a 47% decline compared to October. Cases of robberies including chain-snatchings came down to 39 in December, from 97 in October and 77 in November.
