Kalwa hospital shields doctors who got show-cause notice
THANE: The hospital authorities and the civic administration are at loggerheads over notice served to 24 doctors at Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa.
The hospital authorities said there might be many reasons for them being absent — they could have been stuck in traffic or were taking rounds. The doctors have replied to the show-cause notice which will be sent to the Thane Municipal Corporation.
Following repeated complaints, additional municipal commissioner Sunil Chavan visited the hospital and found over 24 senior doctors absent during the OPD hour. He gave a show cause notice to the doctors.
The hospital authorities said that while some doctors might have been late, the situation of so many doctors missing from duty is rare and they might have a valid reason.
Rajeev Korde, medical superintendent of the Kalwa Hospital, said: “Some of them must be on rounds, visiting other hospital, few in other wards or some might also be on official leave. We are not negating the claim that doctors report late to work.”
The dean of the hospital, C Maitra, said doctors might have been stuck in traffic. “There is always a jam outside Kalwa hospital; some doctors might have been be stuck in traffic. Few might have punched their card and been on rounds. We have also collected the response from the doctors. It will soon be forwarded to the corporation.”
Chavan said only valid reasons will be accepted after proper proof. “If they were on rounds or visiting other hospital, we will check the record and the schedule of the doctor in case they were visiting other hospitals.”
