KALYAN: The MSRDC officials will conduct a structural audit of British-era Patripool bridge in Kalyan in a week.
The 105-year-old bridge is a link to Kalyan east and west.
“Some motorists told us about cracks on the bridge. A structural audit was proposed after examining the bridge and the road. The bridge is under the jurisdiction of MSRDC.Wehaveaskedofficialsto check the bridge’s strength,” said Kiran Surve, tehsildar of Kalyan.
Few motorists from the area noticed the crack and intimated the officials about the issue to avert bigger tragedy.
“The Patripool bridge is said to be some 105 years old. Heavy vehicles continue to ply on it,” Advait Gharat, a city-based activist.
KDMC mayor Rajendra Devlekar assured residents that the bridge was safe. “The 25-metre stretch of Durgadi bridge which links Kalyan and Bhiwandi is dangerous and will be repaired immediately and traffic will be shut down on the stretch,” said Devlekar.
The bridge was repaired in 2007. “The old Durgadi bridge is in bad condition and traffic needs to be stopped on the stretch,” said KDMC officials.
The mayor visited the new Durgadi bridge to review it.
“Patripool, old Durgadi and new Durgadi bridges have been given to MSRDC. I have asked them to submit a report and conduct structural audit if necessary. We will also check the other bridges,” said the mayor.
