Fewer rob­beries, thefts in Mumbai since Nov 8

MUMBAI: “With no cash around, even thieves are go­ing through a dry phase,” a Mumbai po­lice of­fi­cer joked, sit­ting at his desk in­side a quiet po­lice sta­tion – a rare sight for the force. A look at the fig­ures over­thep­asttwom­onthsshowthe state­ment is true.

Hin­dus­tan Times col­lected data on cash-re­lated of­fences in­clud­ing thefts, rob­beries and bur­glar­ies from the Mumbai po­lice. In Oc­to­ber, 628 cases of thefts were re­ported, which dropped to 437 in Novem­ber Po­lice said 118 cases of bur­glar­ies have been re­ported in De­cem­ber so far, while the fig­ure was 188 in Novem­ber and 200 in Oc­to­ber.

and fur­ther came down to 333 in De­cem­ber so far – a 47% de­cline com­pared to Oc­to­ber. Cases of rob­beries in­clud­ing chain-snatch­ings came down to 39 in De­cem­ber, from 97 in Oc­to­ber and 77 in Novem­ber.
