Fewer robberies, thefts in Mumbai since Nov 8

MUMBAI: “With no cash around, even thieves are going through a dry phase,” a Mumbai police officer joked, sitting at his desk inside a quiet police station – a rare sight for the force. A look at the figures overthepas­ttwomonths­showthe statement is true.

Hindustan Times collected data on cash-related offences including thefts, robberies and burglaries from the Mumbai police. In October, 628 cases of thefts were reported, which dropped to 437 in November Police said 118 cases of burglaries have been reported in December so far, while the figure was 188 in November and 200 in October.

and further came down to 333 in December so far – a 47% decline compared to October. Cases of robberies including chain-snatchings came down to 39 in December, from 97 in October and 77 in November.
