KALYAN: After a short-lived relief of a single day, the shortage of vaccine reared its ugly head again in Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Thursday with only five vaccination centres operational across the city. Of these, only four were for those above 45yrs.

The corporation, for now, is only giving second doses as many who have taken the first dose are awaiting the second. Out of the 1.47 lakh beneficiaries who took their first dose of vaccination, only 17 per cent have managed to get their second jab.

Sandip Nimbalkar, medical officer, KDMC, said, “A majority of them who took the first dose are yet to get their second dose, so the centres were giving the second dose on Thursday. While the stock is less now, we will have to run only three centres on Friday. If there is an arrival of new stock, we might increase the number of centres.”

As per the KDMC records, as on April 30, out of the targetted 7.82 lakh beneficiaries, 1.47 lakh have taken their first dose of vaccine while 25,354 have taken their second dose.

Among the health workers, who were the firsts to get the vaccine, out of the 15,844 targetted beneficiaries, 12,526 took the first dose and only 6,108 could take the second.

Similarly, in the frontline workers category, of the 11,337 targetted beneficiaries, 9,215 took the first dose and 4,347 got the second. In the 45 years and above category, of the 7.55 lakh beneficiaries, 1,26,149 took the first and 14,899 took the second.
