RANCHI: A 26-year-old techie, who works for a Bengalurubased IT company, was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa area when she was out with a friend, police said on Saturday. Ten unidentified people have been booked on charges of rape and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the matter.

According to the police, the woman was allegedly raped by 9-10 men near the old aerodrome in Chaibasa on Thursday evening when she was out with a friend on a two-wheeler. A group of 10 men stopped them, beat up her friend, and raped the woman at a secluded spot, the woman said in her complaint. The woman’s friend, however, managed to escape and informed the police.

The accused left her at the spot and fled with her wallet and mobile phone, an official added. The woman managed to reach home and told her family about the incident after which they filed a police complaint.

“The matter pertains to Mufassil police station limits. Police were informed by the friend who was with the survivor and managed to escape from the place of occurrence. We have registered a case based on the woman’s statement and ensured her proper treatment. We have formed an SIT, led by Sadar sub divisional police officer and Jagannathpur DySP,” superintendent of police (West Singhbhum), Ashutosh Shekhar, said.
