GORAKHPUR: The Railway police have launched a probe after a viral video, purportedly showing four people offering namaz in the corridor of a train coach, stirred up a row.

The video, shot and shared by former Uttar Pradesh MLA Deeplal Bharti, purportedly showed the namaz being offered inside the Satyagrah express (15273), when it halted at Khadda Railway Station in Kushinagar on Thursday.

In his complaint to the railway officials, Bharti, who is also a member of the railway advisory committee, alleged that the four men inconvenienced passengers by blocking the way. He added that offering namaz on the train went against the railway norms and demanded an inquiry into the incident. “On Thursday evening, I was to board the Satyagrah Express train at Khadda to go to Kaptanganj. When I entered the compartment, I noticed some people offering namaz in aisle of the sleeper class. I shot a video and sent it to GRP. I felt inconvenienced and had to change the compartment,” said Bharti.

“The information of a viral video about offering namaz in the train corridor has been taken. The veracity of the video and the claim that it was shot on October 20, when the train stopped at Khadda Railway Station, is being looked into. Railway police have been asked to investigate the matter,” chief public relation officer of the North Eastern Railway said.
