INDIA DEFEAT MALAYSIA 5-2 IN SULTAN OF JOHOR CUP OPENER

JOHOR: The Indian junior men’s hockey team began its Sultan of Johor Cup campaign with a 5-2 thrashing of hosts Malaysia here on Saturday.

Amandeep (6’), Araijeet Singh Hundal (10’), Boby Singh Dhami (20’), Sudeep Chirmako (26’), and Sharda Nand Tiwari (56’) scored for the Indian team in the lop-sided match.

Malaysia’s goals were scored by Shahmie Irfan Suhaimi (13’) and Muhammad Mamat (52’).

India will next face South Africa on Sunday.

Bharat leads Bengaluru to win over U Mumba

BENGALURU: U Mumba were in a fantastic position at 24-11 at the end of the first half but Bengaluru Bulls’ raider Bharat put up a strong performanc­e to help his team register a 42-32 victory in the Pro Kabaddi League here on Saturday.

A clinical performanc­e by the Jaipur Pink Panthers earned them a massive 51-27 victory over Telugu Titans in the second game of the day. Raiders Arjun Deshwal, Rahul Chaudhari and defender Sahul Kumar were the stars for the Pink Panthers outfit.

Samarth, Haritashre­e clinch under-14 titles

NEW DELHI: Samarth Sahita and Harithashr­ee Venkatesh claimed the under-14 boys and girls titles respective­ly at the Fenesta Open National tennis championsh­ip on Saturday.

While Samarth emerged victorious after his opponent Arnav Vijay Paparkar conceded the final trailing 3-4 in the first set, Haritashre­e registered a 6-4, 6-2 over Maharashtr­a’s Aishwarya Jadhav.
