FOLK SINGER DROWNS WHILE FISHING IN RIVER

SHAHAPUR: A 30-year-old tribal folk singer, who gained popularity on social media in the last one year, reportedly drowned in a river in Shahapur.

A resident of Valsed village, Bala Ratan Dive gained popularity for his song, Ag Pori Tu Sapnat Ye Na, in Marathi.

A fisherman by occupation, he used to sing various song while selling his catch. Later, a few residents started posting his videos on social media. He started receiving offers from orchestras from several villages. Several villagers also helped him buy some musical instrument­s.

Shahapur police said, “Dive was fishing near Palaspada area when he slipped into the river and could not come out due to strong current of water. We retrieved his body and handed it over to his family after postmortem. We have registered a case of accidental death”

Dive is survived by his wife and two children.
