STRIFE OVER STRAYS INTENSIFIES IN SEAWOODS

-

In an ongoing litigation in the Bombay high court between stray dog feeders and members of the 5000-flat Seawoods Estates in Navi Mumbai, feeders have alleged harassment by the society. According to their lawyer Siddh Vidya, feeders are levied with a fine of ₹5,000 per day for ‘littering’ whenever they feed strays. “The ‘dues’ have now reached a whopping ₹70 lakh,” she said.

Aditya Pratap, a lawyer representing Seawoods Estate, said that when animals were fed within the housing society premises, it was tantamount to encouraging pack behaviour which was unacceptable. “The society has constructed three feeding areas outside its premises,” he stressed, “and that’s where they should be fed.”
