Travellator to boost monorail traffic
By Yogesh Naik
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) floated a tender on Thursday for a travellator connecting the last station of the monorail at Saat Rasta with Mahalaskhmi station of the Mumbai Metro 3, via western railway’s Mahalakshmi station. This will be the first such initiative in the city.
The monorail was started in 2014 and has been under-utilised since, because of poor connectivity. with two three feet-wide lanes.
Mahalaxmi railway station
It is expected to connect South Bombay to the far eastern suburb of Chembur, through Wadala. The refineries in Mahul, close to Chembur, are presently connected by the monorail to Chembur, Saat Rasta and Wadala. These areas are not connected by any other mode of public transport.
