FC Goa down Jamshedpur 3-0 on return to home turf

MARGAO: FC Goa’s first home game of this Indian Super League (ISL) season was a positive one as they defeated Jamshedpur FC 3-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday.

Iker Guarrotxen­a and Noah Wail Sadaoui scored inside the first 15 minutes, while Brison Fernandes struck in the 93rd minute to give FC Goa a win on their return to home turf.

FC Goa were off to a flying start as Guarrotxen­a scored after just two minutes. Brandon Fernandes played a short corner to Edu Bedia on the right flank.

The Spaniard whipped a cross in as the ball missed a flick from Redeem Tlang before finding Guarrotxen­a, whose decisive tap-in put the Gaurs ahead.

Ten minutes later, Brandon found Sadaoui with a defencespl­itting pass from the midfield. The striker kept his left-footed strike low and hard as the hosts doubled the advantage to take control of the contest.

Kapil, Sparsh out of Asian Boxing C’ships

NEW DELHI: Indian boxers Kapil Pokhariya and Sparsh Kumar bowed out of the Asian Elite Boxing Championsh­ips after losing their respective round of 16 bouts in Amman, Jordan on Thursday.

Kapil (86 kg), who was making his internatio­nal debut, was up against Iran’s Pouria Amiri. The boxer from Uttarakhan­d started the bout in attacking fashion but his Iranian opponent came back strongly with a flurry of relentless punches. Pouria continued to control the bout against a tired Kapil and secured a comfortabl­e 5-0 win.

Vengsarkar Academy, Police Gymkhana in SF

MUMBAI: Agatsya Bangera picked up six for 50 as Dilip Vengsarkar Academy beat Payyade SC on first innings lead to enter the semi-finals of the U-16 Santosh Kumar Ghosh Trophy.

Responding to Dilip Vengsarkar Academy’s 456 for three declared, Payyade were bundled out for 134 courtesy Bangera’s efforts. Darsh Murkute (four for 48) supported him ably.

Also entering the semi-finals were Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Sportsfiel­d CC and Dadar Parsee Colony.
