BDD chawl dwellers to get spacious houses
MUMBAI: The urban development department (UDD) has proposed to make modifications to the Development Control Promotion Rules, 2034, to provide an additional 31 square feet to slum dwellers in Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) chawls, in addition to the already announced 269 square feet. The UDD has issued a notification on November 11 and will invite suggestions/objections soon.
A senior UDD officer said that those having tenements in the BDD chawls will get houses of 500 square feet, but there are slums in the BDD complexes too. Earlier, it was stated that the beneficiaries would get houses of 269 square feet, but since all the slum dwellers in Mumbai are getting free houses of 300 square feet each a correction was needed in the BDD chawl makeover too, the official added.
The redevelopment of the BDD chawls is underway at Naigaon, Worli, NM Joshi Marg and Sewri.
The chief executive officer, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) in a letter dated October 1, 2020 had requested the UDD that the eligibility criteria for hutment dwellers are same for schemes under the regulation 33(9)B and 33(10) of the Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR), which are based on the guidelines in the Maharashtra Slum Act, 1971 and resolution issued by the government from time to time.
Thereby, the MHADA has requested the government to modify Clause 3(iii) of the regulation 33(9XB) of the DCPR on the same grounds of the modified regulation 33(10), the notification read.
