MUMBAI: Actor Sanjay Dutt, who returned home on Tuesday from Pune’s Yerawada jail for 14 days, has been granted the leave on medical furlough for treatment of his leg. It was an emotional moment for the entire Dutt family, said a source close to the actor. “Dutt held his two children — Shahraan and Iqra — in a tight hug as soon as he saw them, and gave a warm hug to his wife Manyata when he entered his home. Everyone got teary-eyed,” said the source. “He was supposed to get the leave some time later, but it’s good that came earlier.”

The actor, however, didn’t disappoint the hordes of media gathered below his house in Imperial Heights Apartments, Bandra, waiting for a word from the star. He met the press briefly and said that every prisoner has the right to get leave and that he wasn’t an exception. “I have come for 14 days. This is the right given to every prisoner. I respect the law and the judiciary of the country and I abide by the law,” he said. Sanjay was convicted in the 1993 bomb blast case, and had surrendered on May 16, 2013.

Dutt, who is supposed to undergo treatment for a blood clot in his leg, refrained from divulging any details, and maintained that he would spend two weeks resting at home. “I want to spend this time with my family. Thank you for your support,” said the 54-year-old.

Producer and close friend Bunty Walia was one of the first few to visit Dutt soon after he arrived in his Pali Hill home. “It was a very emotional moment for me to see him at his home,” says Walia. When called, most of Dutt’s friends remained tightlipped about his plans.
