13 teens bag world ranks in board exams

27 students from city have also emerged India toppers in maths, science and psychology

MUMBAI: As many as 13 students from the city were declared world toppers in this year’s Cambridge Internatio­nal Examinatio­ns (CIE), the results of which came out on Tuesday. This is the highest number of world toppers from Mumbai in the last two years.

While 11 have scored the highest marks in the world in Internatio­nal General Certificat­e of Secondary Education (IGCSE) — the Class 10 equivalent — two students have been declared world toppers in the AS level ( Class 11 equivalent) and A level (Class 12 equivalent) exams that were held in November 2012 and June 2013. These students will receive the Outstandin­g Cambridge Learner Award for their exceptiona­l performanc­es.

Three world toppers in the IGCSE exams held in November 2012 were from Utpal Shanghvi School, Juhu. While Banka Aastha Sunit topped in accounting, Mehta Dhruvin Ketan was the world topper in combined science and Sule Nimish Navneet in economics. Takshama Pandit from Prabhavati Padamshi Soni Internatio­nal Junior College, which is run by the same management, topped business studies in the A level exam in November 2012.

With six world toppers, Dhirubhai Ambani Internatio­nal School, Bandra Kurla Complex, has also performed well. While Yash Agrawal topped in mathematic­s

(without course work) in the IGCSE November exams, Armaan Valvi, Devansh Jalota and Garvit Rajkumar Pugalia topped additional mathematic­s. Pranav Mehta topped in Hindi as the second language. Jalota also topped in Physical Education in the IGCSE June 2013.

Ameya Rane from Billabong High Internatio­nal School, Juhu, also topped the world in environmen­tal management in the IGCSE November exams and Amaya Aditya Mangaldas from NSS Hill Spring Internatio­nal School topped in French in the IGCSE June exams. Further, Aishwarya Sridhar from Dr Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, topped in Business Studies in the AS level June exams.

Twenty-seven students from city schools were India toppers in subjects such as physics, mathematic­s, chemistry, biology and psychology, among others.
