No leads from tests on son’s friend: cops

THE CASE SO FAR

- Mohamed Thaver

MUMBAI: The forensic tests conducted on Shreya, girlfriend of Sandhya Singh’s son Raghuveer, a prime suspect in Sandhya Singh’s murder, may not be of much help to police investigations. Sources said that the lie detector and brain-mapping tests conducted on Shreya at the Gujarat Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) are inconclusive. “While we are yet to receive the report from the Gujarat FSL, we have learnt that the tests have been inconclusive,” said an officer overseeing the probe.

The Mumbai crime branch was hoping that the tests would help them get some clarity on Raghuveer’s whereabouts on the day of the murder as well as Shreya’s role in the murder.

Meanwhile, the Bombay high court will be hearing Raghuveer’s anticipatory bail application (ABA) on October 8. The sessions court had earlier rejected his ABA, following which Raghuveer approached the high court. “We have opposed his ABA plea in the high court as we want his custody for interrogation,”

On December 13, an officer said.

While the officer did not reveal the exact nature of evidence they have against Raghuveer, he said that Raghuveer could not give a satisfactory explanation for certain actions on his part Even if the high court rejects Raghuveer’s ABA, the crime branch may not get his custody as he could appeal against the order in the Supreme Court.
