Jaitley alleges misuse of CBI against Narendra Modi
NEW DELHI: In a detailed letter to the prime minister, BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday accused the UPA government and the Congress of misusing investigative agencies like the CBI of trying to “falsely implicate” Narendra Modi and his close aides like Amit Shah in the killings of Sohrabuddin, Ishrat Jehan, Tulsi Prajapati and Harin Pandya - in the run-up to the 2014 elections.
He told the PM that the Congress strategy, in the face of its depleting popularity, was clear because it could not defeat Modi and BJP in the elections. By misuse of investigative agencies they have so far tried various methods of falsely implicating Modi, Amit Shah, and other important BJP leaders.”
“If this practice is not stopped, it will hurt India’s democracy. The charges of politicisation and motivated investigation should all be subjected to a Commission of Inquiry headed by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court,” the letter said.
ALLIES UNHAPPY
The NCP and the National Conference, two UPA allies, have demanded an immediate meeting of the UPA coordination committee to discuss the ordinance on convicted lawmakers.
NCP general secretary DP Tripathi demanded immediate convening of the UPA coordination committee, saying the consultations in the alliance have to be known to the people and the public at large.
