NEW DELHI: India’s largest software services company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Thursday said that it will sponsor the prestigious New York City Marathon. Beginning 2014, the race will be called as “TCS New York City Marathon”.

The marathon, one of the world’s most prestigious amateur sports events, is held on the first Sunday of November. Participants come from all over the world .

“TCS won us over with its commitment to our sport, to elevating the health and well-being of our community and their technological excellence,” said Mary Wittenberg, president and CEO of New York Road Runners (NYRR) — a running club that organises the New York City Marathon.

TCS, which did not reveal its financial commitment to the event, aspires to make the marathon a more technology-enriched and socially-engaging experience for all its participants and fans across the world, said N Chandrasekaran, chief executive officer and managing director, TCS, who is a marathon runner himself.

TCS has been NYRR’S technology-consulting partner since 2010.

The company had previously developed mobile apps for the 2013 NYC Half Marathon and would also create a new app for the 2013 Marathon, helping participants to track runners, get race results, information on the event and tips for training.
