DONETSK: Brazilian striker Taison’s goal 14 minutes from time denied Manchester United a second successive win in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday as Shakhtar Donetsk grabbed a 1-1 draw.

The draw — which sees Shakhtar remain unbeaten at home to English teams — leaves both sides unbeaten after two games with four points.

The point — United took the lead through Danny Welbeck early in the first-half — will ease some of the pressure on manager David Moyes, whose side have made their worst start to a league season since 1989.

“That was a good point coming here and getting one isn’t easy,” said Moyes, who was handed the unenviable job of replacing Alex Ferguson as manager when he stepped down at the end of last season.

“Shakhtar have a great record here so to get a point is no mean achievement. I thought the team stood up well tonight and we defended very well. It is another point that is all, nothing more. It doesn’t take us any further along the line.”

FERGUSON BACKS STRUGGLING MOYES David Moyes will steer Manchester United out of their current slump, former manager Alex Ferguson believes. “Moyes will do a good job for United, I’m confident of that,” Ferguson said in a US television interview picked up by British papers on Thursday.

“He was my choice to succeed me and I’m still absolutely behind him 100 per cent. The club will also give their full support and he will be just fine. United are in good hands.” BECKHAM LOST FOCUS, REVEALS FERGUSON Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said Wednesday that David Beckham had “lost focus” following his marriage to pop star Victoria Adams of the Spice Girls.

“He was a fantastic trainer, practised all the time. At nighttime he would come by with the schoolboys and practise with them. And he was in that collection. And then of course, his life changed, when he married the girl (Adams) from The Spice Girls, yeah. And his focus changed,” the Scot said.

ZAHA DENIES BEDDING COACH’S DAUGHTER Wilfried Zaha has hit out at claims that he was dropped from the team for bedding boss David Moyes’ daughter. According to the Daily Star, the Internet has been buzzing with absurd rumours about Zaha and blonde Lauren, 19. More than 1,000 tweets have highlighted the allegation.
