Tenders called for Currey Road FOB
GOOD NEWS FOR COMMUTERS
MUMBAI: Commuters can expect some relief from congestion at Currey Road station, as work on its second foot over-bridge (FOB) is likely to begin soon. Tenders for the FOB were called by the railway administration on Wednesday.
Commuters have for long demanded an additional FOB at Currey Road. While the civic body had paid the railways for the project four years ago, it has since been stuck.
The new FOB, 3.66 metre wide and 15 metres long, will connect the Cst-end of the station to Currey Road (West), NM Joshi Marg. This will benefit a large number of passengers travelling to Worli, Saat Rasta, Mahalaxmi and several nearby residential colonies. At present, the station has only one FOB, which gets highly crowded during peak hours.
Commuters complain they have to spend at least 10 minutes to reach the platform from the bridge, owing to the crowded staircase during peak hours.
The FOB will mean faster dispersal from the station premises and an additional entry-exit point.
In 2010, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had paid the railways Rs1.17 crore towards construction of the FOB, but it took more than four years In 2010, the BMC had paid Rs1.17 crore for the construction of the FOB, but it took more than four years for railways to process the work

“For almost four years, the railway administration was sitting over the crucial project. Now, we expect them to complete the construction as early as possible,” said Sunil Shinde, ex-corporator.

completed by end of March. “The construction of the FOB got delayed because the cost of a ticketing counter was not included in the project. Now, we will install Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) on the FOB for commuters, as we lack funds to set up a ticket counter,” said a railway official, requesting anonymity.
