Sochi F1 track to get FIA licence: Official
MOSCOW: The Formula One track in Russia’s Black Sea city of Sochi has been given the green light by F1 race director and safety delegate Charlie Whiting.
“The circuit is in very good condition and will be issued with a (FIA) license,” said Whiting, in Sochi with an inspection team from the world motorsport’s governing body, the FIA.
The inspection team visited the recent host city of the Winter Olympics to evaluate the quality of the track and the venue itself to ensure that it fit the purpose of hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix race, scheduled for October 10-12.
PHELPS CONFIDENT OF A GOOD COMEBACK SINGAPORE: Michael Phelps’ comeback to competitive swimming has been anything but smooth sailing.
His defeats at the recent US National Championships were the result of simple mistakes that he has not made since he was a kid - but were easily fixed.
“I have been working on the basics that hopefully make a big improvement,” he told reporters at the Gold Coast.
Despite all his years in the pool, the 28-year-old said his mistakes were just a sign of his rustiness, and would be ironed out before the bigger meets ahead that will ultimately decide the success of his comeback.
“I probably just haven’t had enough (racing) experience over the last year,” added Phelps. MUMBAI LAD MUDIT
