AROUND 59,90,767 VOTERS WILL DECIDE THE FATE OF 238 CANDIDATES FOR THE 18 CONSTITUENCIES IN THANE ON OCTOBER 15

THANE: Preparations are on in full swing to ensure a peaceful polling process in Thane on October 15, where the district collector has declared 764 polling stations as critical. Videographers have been appointed at 248 stations and micro-observers at 516 polling stations.

Thane district collector P Velrasu said, “We have more than 30% people voting without voter cards, so to avoid any bogus voting, we have appointed videographers at polling centres where there are a large number of people without cards.”

The EC has also made arrangements for desktops in offices of returning officers and municipal corporations, so voters can check for their names.

More than 13,662 police officials, 1,023 home guards and more than 400 officials from the Central and state paramilitary forces have been stationed across the district. More than 346 patrolling teams will look out for miscreants.

The police have seized 3,505 licensed and 64 unlicensed weapons in the district. More than 2,113 people have been booked under various sections of the Crpc for violating the model code of conduct. “The police have seized Rs96.25 lakh in cash, 2.16 litres of liquor and 30,294 grams of drugs,” Velrasu said.

Around 59,90,767 voters will decide the fate of 238 candidates in the fray for the 18 Assembly constituencies in Thane on October 15. Voting will start at 7am and end at 6pm.
