India lose to Britain in Johor Cup

JOHOR BAHRU (MALAYSIA): The Indian U-21hockey team went down 0-2 against Britain in their second match of the Sultan of Johor Cup here Monday.

The first half of the game saw both the teams making desperate efforts and giving each other a tough fight to score the opening goal of the match. Although both the teams made several attempts to put the ball in the net, the first goal came in as late as in the 28th minute of the match from the stick of Benjamin James Boon.

‘FUNDING AN OBSTACLE TO OLYMPIC DREAM’

NEW DELHI: Asian Games gold medallist discus thrower Seema Punia Antil said Monday that lack of funds is proving to be a hindrance to her dream of winning a 2016 Rio Olympics medal for the country.

“I am ready to give my best to realise my dream of winning gold for the country. But lack of funds is a big obstacle to achieving my target. You need to invest four crore if one is to win a medal but it is difficult to accumulate such a huge sum of money,” Seema said.

BATRA ELECTED UNOPPOSED AS HI PREZ NEW DELHI: Narinder Batra was elected unopposed as the president of the Hockey India on Monday while Mohammed Mushtaq Ahmad and Rajinder Singh were elected as new general secretary and treasurer respective­ly at the Hockey India Congress.
