1 dead, several hurt as rival groups clash
GURGAON/FARIDABAD: Clashes during the assembly polls in Haryana left 1 dead and several injured. In Mewat, a six-month-old slipped from his mother’s arms and died during clashes that left at least six others injured.
Supporters of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate Ilyas Mohammad and Rahisa Khan, an independent clashed with each other following a verbal brawl. In the commotion, the infant slipped from his mother’s arms and died on the spot. Six injured were rushed to the hospital.
In village Siroli, Mewat in booth number-9, an altercation broke out between the INLD and the independent candidate and shots were fired in the air. In Patuka, Sohna, too INLD supporters clashed with a rival group and shots were fired in the air.
Police teams were rushed to areas that reported violence and situation brought under control.
Vivek Sharma, joint commissioner (crime) said, “Our teams are deployed and the situation is under control.”
In Faridabad, polling in the nine assembly segments was held peacefully with the area recording the lowest voting turnout in Haryana.
Police resorted to firing in the air in Nangaljat and Alimev outside polling booths in Hathin after two groups clashed with each other. Incidents of stone pelting were reported from Narayankhurd in Hathin.
In another incident of vio lence, two rival groups clashed in Nangla Gujran area on Wednesday afternoon in which a supporter of independent candidate Shiv Charan Sharma was injured.
