Fitness not much of a stretch for these yoga enthusiasts

- Lavina Mulchandani

MUMBAI: Animal, vegetable or mineral? That’s a question you could have asked at the many free yoga workshops held as part of HT’S No TV Day weekend fest on Sunday.

Among the sessions on offer were acro, animal and surya yoga, yoga latte, yoga for kids and sunset yoga.

Most of the sessions were held at the serene and scenic Carter Road promenade in Bandra, with some revellers turning up with yoga mats and tonnes of enthusiasm, while others walked in off the street, eager to take on a few twists and turns.

“I attended a Patanjali yoga session during the last No TV Day, in May, and I wanted to know more about it, so I set aside an hour on Sunday morning, attended another session and go to interact with an expert about how I can pursue it in my daily life,” said Saroj Talwar, 24, an advertising executive from Goregaon.

“It’s a nice change from how I usually spend my Sunday mornings—watching TV shows,” she added, laughing.

Among those who walked in ‘just to check it out’ was Bibina Chaparo, 34, a psychologist from Russia on holiday in India for three months, with her husband. “I’ve always been interested in yoga but never confident enough to try it,” she said. “Today I got a chance to try a session and learned many techniques of balancing required for acro yoga or partner yoga. “

Ram Kallayat, 34, a wholesaler trader from Thane, was enthusiastic to try the solar pranic healing yoga session with his wife Kritika, 26, who usually spends Sundays watching movies.

“We learnt a lot about the healing properties of the sun. The session was an energetic and revitalising experience,” he said. “We also met many people who share our curiosity about yoga. I wish more such events were held so that people with similar interest could come together instead of staying glued to their TV sets at home.”
