DUO’S LIMBS CUT OFF AT AKALI LEADER’S HOME, ONE DEAD

FEROZEPUR: Fazilka police on Saturday booked Akali leader and liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda his nephew Amit and five oth ers for the murder of a former employee, whose arms and legs were chopped off.

Doda’s worker, Harry, along with a few others, allegedly attacked 27-year-old Bhim with sharp weapons during a meeting at the leader’s farmhouse on Friday morning. Sources said Harry and Bhim, who worked for Doda till two months ago, had allegedly argued over a girl, leading to a violent clash

“Both legs and arms of Bhim were chopped off while an arm and a leg of Gurjant were severed,” a police official told PTI. He added that both were rushed to a private hospi tal where Sen was declared brought dead. Bhim’s family accused Doda’s nephew, Amit, of assault.

A protest was held at Abohar on Saturday, with people raising slogans against Doda, Amit and the Punjab government. They also burnt a liquor shop owned by Doda besides burning his effigies To monitor the situation, Amar Singh Chahal, deputy inspector general (DIG), Ferozepur, stayed put at Abohar. While all business estab lishments were closed, no arrest was made till Sunday evening.

Abohar MLA Sunil Jakhar said “It’s not a simple murder; it is the result of the nexus between the ruling party and the liquor mafia.”

Meanwhile, vice chairman of the National Scheduled Castes Commission, Raj Kumar Verka summoned Bathinda zone inspec tor general (IG), deputy commis sioner and Fazilka SSP on Monday Verka directed all accused involved be arrested within three days.
