- HT Correspondent

MUMBAI: Gloom descended at the Bhambanis’ home in Matunga on Monday afternoon as Haresh Bhambani’s body was brought in two days after he was found murdered in Kandivli with his client, the artist Hema Upadhyay. Haresh’s last rites were conducted at a crematorium near Sion hospital on Monday afternoon and his family has organised a prayer meet in Matunga on Wednesday evening.

Reeling from the shock of the 65-year-old’s death, Haresh’s family members said on Monday that they were awaiting details from the investigating agencies on the circumstances that led to his murder.

Haresh left from home on Friday evening and when did his younger daughter Anita filed a missing person complaint at Matunga police station. Anita and her elder sister Sonia were distraught over their father’s death but Sonia, who lives in Pune, said, “The family is holding up strong.”

Family members said they were co-operating with the investigating agencies and waiting in the case. None of them commented on the investigation, saying simply that they would let the law take its course. A close family member said that they are “waiting to get further information from the officers and are currently in no position to comment on the subject”.

Close relatives and friends visited the family’s home since Monday morning as the police barricaded the premises. “The family is still in shock and coming to terms with the tragedy that has hit them. Haresh’s wife is inconsolable,” said a close family friend.

Another friend described Haresh as a happy and a joyful man. “He had no arrogance whatsoever and was always a pleasant person to meet. What has just happened is truly unimaginable and we just hope that the family comes out of this dark
