Simplicity of life means the purity of mind and heart

- PP Wangchuk

If we learn to live a simple life, we are bound to reap rich dividends. First of all, the simplicity of life automatically ensures living an honest, contented and happy life. Simplicity means living according to your requirements, as directed by nature with which we have to live in harmony. It means you have to be in tune with the forces of nature that assure you of healthy living.

We are aware of the saying — simple living, high thinking, as that is the way to live life fully and purposefully. That means we have to work hard for what is good for all. This reminds me of Leo Tolstoy, who, in his epic, War and Peace, emphasises, ‘there is no greatness where there is no simplicity, goodness and truth’. If we care to ponder a little, we will realise that life shines best when it is given the simplest form. Most of us, most of the time, fritter away our time in making life complex. And that leads us towards misery and a path of ‘never-ever-happy-ending’ kind of journey on this world.

Every morning when we wake up to see another good day, we should be thankful and in tune with the regularity of nature. That is why Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said, “Manifest plainness, embrace simplicity, reduce selfishness and have few desires.” Surely, that makes life manifest itself in its natural and purest form to enable us to perform our duty of making a great deal of difference towards others before we bid adieu. In fact, I always make it a point to assert that simplicity stands for purity of heart and mind that keeps the flag of life aloft.
