Hangover treatment vans a hit

- Lavina Mulchandani

MUMBAI: In a rather unusual promotional initiative, Care24 — a Mumbai-based home healthcare startup — turned four of its vans into mobile ‘hangover treatment’ units on New Year’s Eve.

The company tied up with 50 pubs across Lower Parel, Bandra and Andheri and left behind pamphlets offering their services via a help line.

The odd thing is they got scores of calls — from barmen and from friends and relatives of overenthusiastic revellers.

“We had two cases that looked like they needed urgent help, so we called the van and they brought basic medication for acidity, dizziness and nausea. In each case, they also left behind a hangover care package that included barf bags, lime juice and pamphlets on responsible drinking,” said John Jesso, spokesperson for Bandra’s Rude Lounge. “They arrived within 15 minutes both times.”

The vans did their rounds between 11pm and 3.30am, getting most of their calls from Bandra, says marketing head Ankit Agarwal.

One such call came from the wife of an entrepreneur named Rakesh, 25, who asked that we not reveal any more of his identity.

After four drinks at Toto’s Garage, Rakesh was tottering about and looked set to pass out which rather alarmed his wife Suchita. A fellow reveller sug gested she call the care van and two attendants arrived thereaf ter, to help Rakesh regain some measure of sobriety.

“Five minutes after they left, Rakesh was able to stand straight, and walk. We went on to enjoy the rest of the night without any more alcohol,” Suchita said.
