Proposal to install dustbins in every vehicle plying on city roads
BRAINWAVE OR HARE-BRAINED?
MUMBAI: You could soon see dustbins on BEST buses, autorickshaws, taxis and even private vehicles plying on city roads; that is, if a corporator’s proposal gets passed in the general body meeting of the civic body.
In line with prime minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative, a Congress corporator with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demanded that dustbins be installed in vehicles. Paraminder Bhamra, the corporator, has sought a notice of motion to this effect in the general body meeting scheduled on January 5.
Bhamra said his idea aims at minimising waste thrown out of vehicles. “This can be avoided if people have small dustbins inside their vehicles. That will reduce incidences of garbage thrown on A BMC corporator, Paraminder Bhamra, has proposed that dustbins be installed in BEST buses, autorickshaws and even private vehicles plying on city roads
Bhamra says this idea will minimise the waste thrown roads,” Bhamra said.
He also said the BMC should make this rule mandatory to improve cleanliness and sanitation in the city; it is needed, he says, because BMC’S ‘Clean Mumbai, Green Mumbai’ initiative has not produced satisfactory results.
In October 2014, the corporator from Malad had put forward a proposal that private and public hospitals be cleaned with cow from vehicles on the roads He says this is necessary because BMC’S other waste management initiatives have failed. The proposal may appear before the BMC’S general body meeting on January 5 urine. He had stated that cow urine has germ-killing proper ties and is also easily available
BMC has been undertaking multiple initiatives under the Swachh Bharat campaign to improve waste management in the city. Recently, BMC’S stand ing committee passed a Rs4.5 crore proposal to supply three lakh bins for segregation of wet and dry garbage at the house hold level.
