It has been a nightmare for six buildings that are facing the worst of it because of no water supply. Each family must have spent more than Rs1 lakh on water tankers. SUDHIR SHINDE, secretary, Manish Nagar Societies Association

MUMBAI: While the city is facing a 15% water cut, residents of Andheri’s Manish Nagar are facing the worst water crisis as they have to depend on tankers for their daily water needs.

Residents complained that from the last three months, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stopped water supply for ‘unknown’ reasons.

Even after several complaints to civic officials, the problem is nowhere near getting resolved. About 1,500 residents of six buildings in Manish Nagar are running from pillar to post for the past two weeks trying to get normal water supply.

Secretary of Manish Nagar Societies Association, Sudhir Shinde, said, “It has been a nightmare for six buildings that are facing the worst of it because of no water supply. Each family must have spent more than Rs1 lakh on water tankers. We have complained about the issue at the ward office but nothing has happened.”

There are 50 buildings under Manish Nagar Societies Association, of which, those situated at the end of the locality have not been getting proper supply.

When asked about crisis at Manish Nagar, an official from K-west (Andheri, Jogeshwari) ward, said, “The water pipeline which brings water to societies from the reservoir is badly in need of repairs. We have asked the society to pay for replacing the pipeline but they are not ready. As some buildings are at the end of the supply line, they are more affected because of the low pressure.”

In October, the BMC had announced a 15% water cut till July 2016 as the water supplying lakes did not get enough stock.

Another resident of Manish Nagar, Nandkishor B said “There are several profession als and office goers suffering because of the water crisis They are forced to change their schedule according to the water tankers’ arrival.”

Nandkishor further added that, “Tired of not getting any solution from civic body last Sunday we had organised a dharna in protest. Sometimes officials say there is a problem with the valve of pipeline which supplies water to the area but after few days, they suggested to replace the whole pipeline. They are not sure about the cause and doing nothing in resolving the issue.”
