Ashwin Naik sent to judicial custody

MUMBAI: The special MCOCA court on Saturday refused to extend gangster the police custody of gangster Ashwin Naik and his aides booked in an extortion case, observing there is no progress in the investigat­ion.

Naik and his aides were produced before the special MCOCA holiday court on Saturday, where the Dadar police demanded custody for 14 more days.

The public prosecutor Dilip Shah contended that a lot of time had been wasted getting details of the defense taken by the accused about the property issue between Naik and the com had to be taken to hospital for treatment and the officers were on deputation of bandobast duty for December 31, Shah said.

Naik had claimed the property which is under developmen­t belonged to him and money tion.

Another accused, Pramod Keluskar, had alleged he was in court on the day when the complainan­t — builder — was allegedly kidnapped and brought before Naik for extortion, the prosecutio­n argued.

Naik’s advocate Prem Keshwani and advocate for Keluskar GJ Bhanushali contended that for reasons prayed by the prosecutio­n, the presence of accused is not needed.

After hearing both the side, the court observed that there is no progress in the investigat­ion hence request for police custody cannot be granted.
