Respite from heat as mercury falls

MUMBAI: Mumbai got a respite from the high day temperatur­es on Saturday after the mercury dropped in south Mumbai and the suburbs.

As compared to Thursday’s day temperatur­e of 37.3 degrees Celsius — six degrees Celsius above normal — in the suburbs, which was the second-highest day temperatur­e recorded in December in a decade, and Friday’s high of 35.3 degrees Celsius, the maximum on Saturday at the Santacruz weather station fell to 33.2 degrees Celsius, 2.1 degree Celsius above normal.

Similarly, south Mumbai saw temperatur­es dropping from Friday’s 34.7 degrees Celsius — 4.2 degree Celsius above normal — to 32.4 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degree Celsius above normal on Saturday.
