BMC begins ‘officer of the month’ programme

MUMBAI: In a bid to improve employee productivity, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now taking some corporate human resources lessons. The civic body has decided to recognise and felicitate an ‘officer of the month’, a programme where deserving officers will be rewarded.
The civic body hopes that such a programme will motivate officials to work harder and result in a healthy sense of competition among them. The officer will be felicitated in the review meetings for noteworthy work done in order to give better service to citizens.
Kick starting the programme, civic chief Ajoy Mehta felicitated VP Chithore, chief engineer (building proposal) as the officer of the month for cutting down on the number of unnecessary permissions that were being asked from developers during construction. Apart from the nullah desilting coordination, the civic chief has also asked to carry out pruning of trees and not wait till the pre-monsoon work is started all the footpaths, focusing on a 100% open dump free ward, time bound fire audits being carried out in buildings, multiplexes to all the ward officers.
One of the civic officials present in the meeting said, “There is not going to be any sort of reports of good work done in our respective ward offices that will be submitted to the municipal commissioner’s office. “The civic chief will see these three things to identify the status of a ward and accordingly, the ward officer will have to explain how to improve the condition,” said a civic official chief from ward officers, various departmental heads.”
The civic chief has also asked the ward officers to act as main coordinators for getting work done, especially in the case of nullah cleaning. Mehta has ordered ward officials to communicate with railway authorities to clean the nullahs if falling in their jurisdiction and get it cleaned and not indulge in a blame game like every year, said a civic official.
