Sawhney strike helps Mumbai FC make a point

- HT Correspondent

MUMBAI: Mumbai FC managed to eke out a point off their Elite Division match against Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in an exciting battle for supremacy at the Cooperage football ground on Saturday.

Mumbai FC, the lone club from the city participating in the I-league, encountered a stiff challenge from ONGC who started off spiritedly to take the fight to the opposition camp and bulged the goal nets first.

In the 20th minute, ONGC’S prolific striker Kailash Patil capitalised on a half chance to head home from a free-kick to put his team in front.

However, ONGC’S lead was soon neutralised by Mumbai FC’S Karan Sawhney. After chasing teammate Eric Brown’s measured forward pass, Sawhney neatly lobbed the ball over an advancing ONGC goalkeeper to cancel out their deficit in the 24th minute.

In the second session, though filled with as much excitement as in the first, failed to produce another goal.

The next Elite Division match is between Kenkre FC and GM Sports Club at the Cooperage on Sunday at 3.00pm.
