Golden double for Indian paddlers

KUALA LUMPUR: Indian men and women’s teams scripted history by clinching the gold medals at the second division of the World Table Tennis Team Championsh­ip with victories over Brazil and Luxembourg respective­ly on Saturday.

Indian women beat Luxembourg 3-1 in the event final of the Second Division, while their male counterpar­ts overcame a Brazil 3-2.

India had sealed their entry in the Champions Division by reaching the finals. Incidental­ly, this was the first time ever that the women’s team kept a clean slate — eight wins — in the first and the second stages.

Lebron James had 19 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in the Cavaliers’ 108-83 victory over the Wizards in Cleveland.

Kyrie Irving added 21 points and eight assists for Cleveland.

JITU FINISHES FIFTH IN 10M AIR PISTOL

BANGKOK: Indian shooter Jitu Rai reached the final of the 10 metres air pistol event to eventually finish fifth on competitio­n day three of the ISSF World Cup for Rifle and Pistol on Saturday.

Jitu shot 580 to qualify for the eight-man final in seventh position, before being eliminated in fifth position and after the 14th shot in the 20-shot final.
