drive. He has also instructed us to draw a plan to help supply adequate water supply even if the rain is less than average. If the rainfall is adequate in June and July, we may do away with the 20% water cut, but until then it will continue.”

The ward officers have also been instructed to coordinate with the hydraulic department and the leak detection cell to coordinate and fix leakages before the rain starts. Last year, the civic body had disconnected more than 2,500 unauthorised connections that resulted in fewer complaints from citizens.

The ward officials, however, will review the status of water along with the engineers of water department and report to the civic chief on the condition of pipelines, if the water pressure can be changed or if supply timings need to be changed in some areas.

The civic body currently has a stock of 5,34,753 million litres of water in all the seven lakes, which is about 1,00,000 million litres less than the water stock measured on March 6 2015. While the city needs water for another 147 days, the civic officials said 50% of the reserve stock from the seven lakes will be required. One of the civic officials, on condition of anonymity, said, “To use reserve stock from Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa, we will require the state government’s permissions, which they decide after June 15 every year.”
