City cools down at night, but only slightly
‘MODERATE’ AIR QUALITY CONTINUES
MUMBAI: The city became marginally cooler as overall temperatures dropped closer to normal levels on Sunday owing to a rise in wind speed, said weathermen.
Night temperatures recorded between 8.30am on Saturday and 8.30am on Sunday saw a twodegree drop in south Mumbai.
The Colaba weather station recorded a temperature of 22.2 degrees Celsius, which was 0.6 degrees Celsius above normal as compared to 24.4 degrees Celsius recorded the previous day.
Similarly, night temperatures in the suburbs dropped by a degree as the Santacruz weather station observed 19.9 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degree Celsius above normal as compared to 20.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
“Over the past three days, westerly winds travelling at high speeds have brought moisture along the coast throughout the the sea breeze has been setting in early. Along with a partly cloudy sky, these factors have not allowed temperatures to rise,” said VK Rajeev, director, western region, India Meteorological Department (IMD), adding that the current conditions are likely to continue for the next 48 hours.
On Sunday, day temperatures, too, were seen hovering just around normal levels both at Recorded between 5.30pm on Saturday and 5.30pm on Sunday, Colaba observed 31.4 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees above normal, as the maximum, while 32.8 degrees Celsius was recorded at Santacruz, which was at the normal mark.
