CORPORATOR­S JUSTIFY THEIR 5-DAY ANDAMAN TOUR IN REPORT

MUMBAI: After facing flak for their tour to the Andaman mayor Snehal Ambekar and cor porators from the standing com mittee of the Brihanmumb­a Municipal Corporatio­n (BMC) have submitted a detailed report of their study tour. The report mentions the itinerary of the Andaman tour and also states that the tourist spot’s disaster management technology can be implemente­d in Mumbai.

The report will be tabled for discussion this week. Ritu Tawde, education committee chairman and a BJP corporator was served a show-cause notice to attend this study tour along with other Sena corporator­s.

The detailed report stated that 10 corporator­s attended the tour along with three civic officials The report gave details of the disaster management office at Port Blair and further sug gested the technologi­es used by this office should be imple mented in Mumbai, which is also an island and is prone to various disasters. A lazer show was also mentioned, which the mayor stated even the BMC is planning to have at Powai garden and budgetary provisions have been made for the same.

The mayor, while addressing the representa­tives of the coun cil in Andaman, said, “The infor mation shared by the officers regarding the disaster manage ment is of utmost importance and we will surely try to imple ment this informatio­n for the betterment of Mumbai as well.”

Earlier in January, various committee corporator­s had gone to various tourist spots at the cost of public money.

These trips had initiated a public debate on whether the civic body should spend money for such trips.
