Building collapses on another structure in Matunga
MUMBAI: A ground plus-three storeyed structure partly collapsed on the nearby standalone building on Bhandarkar road near Kabutar Khana at Matunga east on Sunday evening.
The part of the building collapsed, while the demolition work of another structure that was being redeveloped, was going on.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 6.45pm and the fire brigade rushed to the spot to carry out the rescue operation.
There were no injuries reported to any resident, informed the fire officials. They added that there were a few who were stuck in the debris on the southern side of the nearby structure but were rescued by the locals before the fire brigade reached the spot.
The Mahavir building, which partly collapsed, was being redeveloped. The building collapsed as the demolition of the building, which was being carried out by the labourers, went wrong.
The 40-year-old structure collapsed with a loud sound, scaring the neighbouring residents. While the building came down, the fire officials could not initially ascertain whether any person was stuck inside it or not, as the collapse led to huge debris. But as there were no complaints of labourers missing and after carrying out an initial search operation, the fire officials reported that no one was stuck in the debris.
“We were informed by the locals that a few people were stuck in the southern side of the nearby structure on which the Mahavir building collapsed. But they were rescued safely before our arrival. There were no injuries or casualties reported,” said a fire official.
