MUMBAI: Subiya Barmal, 22, the lone survivor in the Thane massacre, was discharged from the private hospital in Thane on Saturday. She is the sister of Hasnain Warekar, who allegedly murdered all the 14 members of his family, on February 28.

The Th ane police are now awaiting chemical analysis (CA) reports to ascertain if the family members were sedated before they were killed. Subiya’s statement led to vital discoveries, which are being analysed by the police department.

“The chemical analysis reports will help us ascertain if the cold drinks or food were laced with sedatives. This will clear our doubts whether the killings were pre-meditated or not,” said a senior officer with the Thane police.

Police stated they will scrutinise the details provided by Subiya in her statement. “She is the lone survivor. We are crosschecking the revelations made by

her in the statement. The financial part in which she stated that accused Hasnain Warekar was in debt has been found true. Other theories such as Hasnain sexually assaulting her younger sister are also being verified,” said the officer.

Her statements have also revealed that Hasnain insisted on all the sisters coming together for dinner. Police investigations revealed that Hasnain called up Subiya to come to Thane but the latter stated that she was busy.

Hasnain, however, decided to pick her up from Navi Mumbai.

Police suspect that Hasnain may have planned the killings in advance. Around 3am when everyone was sleeping, he start ed slitting the throats of fam ily members in which 14 people were killed. His sister Subiya saw Hasnain murdering their sister and tried to stop him. He attacked her but she managed to raise an alarm and escape through a window. Hasnain then hanged himself.
