High-speed winds to keep city cool this week, say weathermen
MUMBAI: The week began with night temperatures being closer to normal across the city, while day temperatures increased by a degree on Monday compared to the weekend.
An increase in wind speed made the city marginally cooler, said weathermen.
Night temperatures recorded between 8.30am on Sunday and 8.30am on Monday were below normal in the suburbs, while the minimum temperature was above normal marginally in south Mumbai.
The Colaba weather station recorded a temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius, which was 0.6 degree above normal, while the Santacruz weather station recorded 20 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degree below normal.
“The westerly winds travelling at high speeds for the fourth consecutive day have increased moisture along the coast. The sea breeze in the evening set in early on Monday and did not allow temperatures to rise,” said VK Rajeev, director, western region, India Meteorological Department (IMD).
He said a clear sky has been predicted for Tuesday with day and night temperatures at 33 and 19 degrees Celsius respectively.
Day temperatures in the suburbs saw an increase by more than a degree on Monday. Recorded between 5.30pm on Sunday and 5.30pm on Monday, 33.6 degrees Celsius was the maximum temperature, which was 1.5 degrees above normal.
On the other hand, Colaba
observed 29.9 degrees, 0.8 below normal compared to 31.4 degrees Celsius the previous day.
Like last week, moisture levels were high during the day — 81% and 77% humidity
was recorded at Colaba and Santacruz respectively.
However, levels dropped to 69% at Colaba and 41% at Santacruz by Monday evening.
