MUMBAI: Angry with his former lover for filing a harassment complaint, a man, who has served eight years in jail under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, went on a rampage at Goregaon police station on Monday, assaulting the woman and breaking the window pane of the senior inspector’s cabin.

The couple (names withheld to protect identity) has been in a relationship for more than a year and was to get married, said police.

The woman apparently discovered the man’s criminal past four days ago, after which she broke up with him.

Angry, the man started stalking her and keeping a watch on her movements, the woman alleged in her statement.

On Sunday evening, the man stood outside the woman’s house in Goregaon and demanded she meet him.

He called her up and threatened to set her and her brother’s bike on fire, if she didn’t meet him. As the woman refused to budge, the man left. The woman and her mother then approached the police at 2am.

The police summoned the man. “He came to the police

station drunk. The man alleged the woman was cheating on him and slapped her,” said an officer from Goregaon police station, requesting anonymity.

Even as policemen intervened, the man continued to hit her. In a fit of rage, he also damaged the computers.

When the officers tried to calm him down, he ran upto

the senior inspector’s cabin and started banging his head on the glass door, breaking it, said another police officer, requesting anonymity.

“The man has been arrested on charges of molestation. We are investigating further,” said Bhaskarrao Jadhav, senior inspector, Goregaon police sta tion.
