Argument turns ugly: 23-yr-old kills father, stepmother

- Arvind Walmiki

THANE: In a reminder of the Thane massacre, where a 35-year-old killed 14 of his family members and hanged himself, a 23-year-old man, Sagar Dinkar, killed his stepmother and father at Vangani near Thane on Monday.

Sagar lived with his brother Aman, 21, stepmother Lata, 35, stepsister Janvi, 6, and father Suresh, 45. His mother passed away 14 years ago after which his father got married to Lata.

On Sunday, Sagar and Aman left for Bhirwadi for a kabbadi match around 8pm. “Suresh and Lata had a fight at 10pm. My elder brother intervened and the matter was soon resolved,” said Suresh’s brother Nathuram Dinkar, 42.

Sagar returned from the match by 3.30am. “His parents taunted him for disturbing their sleep. Soon, the argument turned ugly. In a fit of rage, Sagar slit their throats and sat near the door. When Aman came back within a few minutes, he saw his parents’ bodies lying in a pool of blood. He called his neighbours and the police,” said Nathuram Dinkar.

According to Aman, Sagar often complained that his parents didn’t love him.

“Sagar started working a few years ago, but our mother never gave him tiffin. Our father too didn’t stand up for us. Sagar used to often say that he missed having loving parents,” said Aman.

Anil Pawar, inspector, Vasind police station, said, “The couple was taken to a hospital in the vicinity, where they were declared dead. Lata and Sagar used to argue frequently. Further investigation is on”.

Sagar has been booked under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code. He will be produced in the Shahapur court on Tuesday.
