On re-exam after paper leak
HSC students do not want re-exam as it may delay results
MUMBAI: Three days after the HSC book keeping and accountancy question paper was leaked on the social media, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has still not decided whether to test students again.
The paper was found to have leaked on Whatsapp at least 40 minutes before it was handed out to the examinees on Friday. A student was also caught with photos of the question paper on his mobile phone during the exam at Royal College, Mira Road.
The Mira Road police station had also found that the paper was allegedly sold to students for Rs5,500 and that at least 12 students had access to the paper.
Despite this, the state board authorities have not yet decided whether a re-exam is needed.
“We can only conduct a reexam if it’s proved that the leaked paper reached a large number of students before the exam,” said Siddeshwar Chandekar, secretary of the board, Mumbai division, including Thane, Palghar and
Raigad.
“So far, we have not received any information from the police about the ongoing investigation,” Chandekar added.
On the other hand, the students who had appeared for the paper said that they do not want a re-exam as they fear it might delay results.
“If the board holds a re-exam, then our HSC results could be announced late. This will cause difficulties in college admissions, especially for those students who want to study outside the city,” said Jay Molankar, a Class 12 student.
Students said the board needs to take a decision soon.
“Since book keeping and accountancy was the last paper for most commerce students, the board needs to announce its decision soon so that we can plan our holidays accordingly,” said Sneha Jain, another student.
